itinerary Overview

A thrilling hiking adventure in the pristine wild
Magnetized by Mt Kilimanjaro, the hikers often overlook Mt Meru, the second highest peak of Tanzania and the third in Africa at 4,568m. Towering over Arusha National Park, Mount Meru offers both an excellent warm-up exercise for Kilimanjaro, in addition to being a stunning trekking experience in the wild by its own.
Mount Meru trekking is a real adventure. The slopes of this dormant (yet active - the last eruption was in 1910) volcano offer fascinating panoramic vistas and bustling wildlife around it. This volcano was “born” around 500,000 years ago, and it's very first eruption virtually exploded its eastern side, creating its well-known, peculiar appearance. In addition to that, Mt Meru has one of the deepest craters - over 1,500 meters!

If you opt for pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Take Me to Tanzania Adventures & Safaris driver will warmly welcome you upon arrival. Sit back and enjoy a comfortable ride to your hotel in Arusha, Tanzania’s renowned ‘safari capital.’ Along the way, you’ll catch a glimpse of this vibrant and bustling city. Depending on your arrival time, your pre-hiking briefing will either be conducted today or early tomorrow morning, ensuring you’re prepared for your adventure.

Early in the Morning, you’ll be picked up from the hotel and drive to Momela Gate. After a short registration at the Gate our walk will begin with full armed ranger escorting us, on the way we can observe wild animals including elephants, zebras, and giraffe , monkeys, antelope, and often elephants along the route. Dinner and overnight night at Miriakamba Hut.  There you may rest or explore the surroundings.

Upon reaching the Saddle Hut Camp, those who are willing and energetic enough may reach the Little Meru Peak, further boosting your acclimatization transition.

Our team will serve hot lunch and dinner at Saddle Hut.

The final part of the climb is along a spectacular narrow ridge line between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Miriakamba Hut.
